Millerods CRANKFREAK ULS is an ultra-light crank bait specific design developed by Ian Miller to extend his range of exclusive custom designs with a real technique-specific pedigree that’s now available as a production rod to deliver bonafide high performance!

This rod is fine-tuned for fishing small bibbed lures and has the perfect length, action and power for longer casting and superior line control when fishing shallow flats using either FC lines or braid with mono leader*. With a unique action and 1pc blade this blank is smooth and easy-loading, with a soft tip that gives excellent feed-back from small bibbed lures and allows the fish to easily load the rod and become hooked. The flexible mid-section cushions any erratic movement from the fish, effectively protecting the often delicate hook-hold of a small treble.

When testing this rod in the early stages, Ian loaded the reel with 2lb FC monofilament and using lures with fine super-sharp trebles consecutively landed over 40 bream in a row before a fish was able to shake itself free of the lure!

This action and power also makes the CrankFreak ULS an ideal choice for fishing small hard-bodied surface lures with less drag such as pencil topwaters. For the ultra-light cranking technique, the ‘tip-up’ rod retrieve is often required over shallow flats and the CrankFreaK ULS has amazing lightweight balance to ensure this is effortless and enhances sensitivity.

The KR guide train comprises Fuji’s titanium frames for corrosion resistance, sized in semi-micro rings to further reduce weight. Ceramics are Fuji’s very latest ‘SlimRing’ SiC which gives smooth performance and protects ultra-light lines from wear and tear. The CrankFreak ULS incorporates Ian’s ‘Control Freak’ style handle, comprising Fuji SKSS reel seat over a blue carbon barrel, and custom-shaped x-firm EVA in the Millerods signature style blue Camoufish pattern, all finished with the ‘M’ logo anti-skid butt cap.

*Millerods recommends using FC straight through for this rod model to maximise effectiveness. If using braid with mono leader, the use of the FG connecting knot will be the superior method. All Ian’s lure casting guide trains are selected with this connecting knot in mind.
